When we work closely with an in house client team you win. Why? Because you
wind up building your skills and knowledge to the point where you can be
counted on as an in-house expert. Beyond that, experience has shown us time and
time again the benefits of an engagement where one or two Buttonwood
consultants work with a client team:
 |
 |
Results that stick. The most common source
of failure is the inability to win organizational buy in. This is the
unfortunate outcome when an army of outside consultants swoop in and make
recommendations.
Through passive neglect, recommendations don’t take root, and initiatives
wither on the vine until they are all but forgotten. Our approach is designed
to overcome this and win “willing participants in the process”.
How? The best practices expertise that Buttonwood brings is combined with
unique in-house company knowledge contributed by internal client team. This
combination builds lasting buy-in and commitment and overcomes the Not Invented
Here syndrome. Each step of the process, all the tools and templates, every
workshop and deliverable is designed with this challenge in mind.

Cost Effectiveness. Leveraging what is
typically one, or possibly two, outside consultants with an internal client
team is highly cost effective. Cost savings come not only from the fact that
there are fewer consultants on the ground, but also from less time spent on
internal consultant debate.
With large traditional consulting firms, there can be considerable time spent
in review. Consultants who are doing the bulk of the work need to review their
actions and plans with managers, who need to do the same in turn with senior
managers, who do the same with partners.
In contrast, all of Buttonwood’s consultants are highly trusted,
experienced professionals who operate effectively without extensive
supervision. Their first accountability is to the client.

 |
In house expertise. The client managers we
work with develop core leadership and project management skills that will serve
them and their companies long after the engagement is over. In addition,
because they work closely with consultants, they develop a level of
understanding that can’t be taught in any classroom.
